About BMC

Burke Middle College educational opportunity for high school students in Burke County

Burke Middle College (BMC) is a two-year educational program operated by Burke County Public Schools and Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC).  Through this program students complete their 11th and 12th grade coursework on the campus of WPCC, while also working toward a college associate degree.   All college courses completed during their enrollment in BMC are completely tuition-free.  However, students will incur some college fees and textbook expenses while completing the program.  Students may complete their entire community college degree by the time they graduate high school, thereby giving them a two-year head start on achieving their college and career goals.

Enrollment for the 2017-2018 school year was 138 students.  Our small student population allows for much more individualized attention and career counseling opportunities for students.  We pride ourselves on providing a program that is both mature and nurturing, while also preparing students for their futures.

We are seeking potential students for the 2018-2019 school year.  To qualify for our program, students must possess a minimum GPA of 2.8.  There are particular high school courses that must be completed prior to enrollment in BMC.  Once enrolled in BMC, students are eligible to participate in athletics and other extra-curricular activities sponsored by their previous high school.  Also, enrollment in our program requires a two-year commitment in order to complete as many college credits as possible.
